This is Jiro, one of the characters from my Avatar fic Chasing the Wind and one of Kuan-Yin's buddies. She's pretty awesome~ (and usually wears a mask ps) . Although she looks gruff and jaded, mostly due to the fact that it's uncomfortable to move her face, she's a deadpan-snarker and is pretty hilarious. She also happens to style her hair in the warrior-wolftail style, because she thinks it's a great (and functional) warrior hairstyle AND she wants to get as far from her actual culture as possible.

She is albino, born in a Fire Nation colony to an ex- firebender soldier woman and her husband. She had a rough childhood because of her appearance (because kids are jerks, especially firenation ones), and though her parents tried to shield her from the cruelty she often came home from school battered and downtrodden. It didn't help that, due to her condition she is highly sensitive to the sun and can't see past five feet in front of her. She did find happiness in her school and her teachers, however, and her mother was delighted to find out she could firebend. All in all, the goods outweighed the bads.

She was captured in a raid on her hometown by a group of bandits (kind of like adult Freedom Fighters) when she was thirteen, amidst the confusion of a large-scale actual takeover by the earth kingdom on her island. Her parents both live, though she doesn't find that out for a long time (she keeps faith though) Upon going back to the mainland, they realized they had no idea what they were going to do with a kid. (They weren't going to kill her, they did have some morals after all), so as they travelled they kept a look out for somewhere to dump her. It took a few months, and they grew somewhat fond of Jiro, though not to fond to get rid of her when they came upon a monastery full of non-bender warrior monks.

The monks were... quite spiritual, to say the least, and they took her in with open arms and let her join the order, claiming she was meant for great things because she seemed to have been touched by the Great Spirits (because of her apparence this was not actually true). It was quite a hairy situation at first, because Jiro wanted back with her parents and the monks were taking a huge risk harboring a firebender. Even a mini one. Luckily she got used to the idea, and remained there until she was twenty three, when the Fire Nation came and took out the monastery, for it's strategic location and the fact that it was full of highly trained and dangerous earth nation sympathizers. The monks and Jiro were captured and sent to a work camp. Jiro attempted escape numerous times, each resulting in new scars. she was trapped for three years until an escape attempt finally worked and she and the remaining monks fled to the Earth Nation. She spent several months recovering, and disappeared one day without so much as a note. It was really because she sucks at goodbyes, and hoped her future actions would display her gratitude for the monks for her.

Jiro took to travelling, deciding to try to liberate all the Fire Nation slave camps, which evolved into performing solo raids on Fire Nation caravans and camps. (a dangerous task, often ending in injury, failure, and citizens taking pity on her and helping her out) She took on the persona of 'the Inari Spirit', donning the only relic saved from the monastery, a knowledge-seeker ornamental mask. (This would be impractical for a normal person, but Jiro can barely see anyway so the impracticality is lost on her.)

After a year of this she has a run-in with a Dai-lee agent (Ronin) who is chasing a different masked firebender vigilante, and a lone water nation woman (Miksa). They kind of run into each other a few times until they officially join forces~

Jiro's wanted by the Fire Nation, but her firebending has also caught the eye of Earth Nation officials, who aren't really sure what to do about her.

Welp, kinda long history haha and written at lie 3 am so it might be strangely worded... (mind you, Chasing the Wind takes place twenty years before Aang is discovered)
