Jo and Daisuke ditch their bags and instruments just as the first boy reaches them and brings his wooden bat up, pressing it into Daisuke's chest with a sneer. Daisuke has his hands up in defense, knowing it's too late to avoid a brawl. He winces when the bat is pressed harder into his sternum.
"Looks like I-" A blur of motion and a sharp crack! snaps the boy's neck around, interrupting him and sending him sprawling into the ground.
Daisuke stares down at Jo, whose arm has already been retracted, she's already settled into a fighting stance.
"Get your shit together Dai!" She hisses before the other eight boys descend on them.
Daisuke launches a kick at one of the bat-wielders, who isn't expecting it and is booted back into another boy. One's head hits the others, and he's knocked out instantly.
As the still-conscious one tries to untangle himself from his knocked-out companion, a third boy takes a swing at Daisuke, who blocks it and counters with an elbow to his assailant's nose. He grins at the snap he feels, but just as suddenly grunts when another boy jabs his bat into his stomach. Daisuke doubles over, but manages to land a strike into the broken-nose-boy's temple from the position, dropping him like a rock.
Before he can recover completely, the bat-boy launches a swing at his head, which connects with a sickening crack. Daisuke drops instantly, the edges of his vision blurring rapidly before completely going dark, his ears ringing loudly.
Jo ducks under a bat that's swung at her head, and spins around to gather momentum for a kick that's too fast for the kid to block. It catches him in the cheek and sends him spinning into the fence, where he hits and slides down to the ground, dazed.
She barely has time to recoil and bound backwards when a second boy swipes a bat for her side. He charges her again, along with a third, unarmed boy, and the two both strike for Jo's face. Jo twists to avoid the downswing of the bat and sends a right hook at the unarmed one, her strike slightly awkward in her movement. It connects with his jaw solidly, and she winces slightly when she feels her knuckles split.
The boy, however, grunts and staggers backwards, dazed. Jo has no time to watch. A fourth assailant is already on top of her, and shoves her back into the fence and swings straight for her face. She tilts her head to avoid it, and the boy lets out a high-pitched shriek when his knuckles strike metal. He recoils, and Jo takes the opening, grabbing his shoulders for leverage and driving a knee straight up into his crotch. He lets out an awkward squeak and topples over.
Jo straightens and eyes the approaching bat-wielder when she hears a nasty cracking noise.
"Dai!" She shouts when she sees him go down. The distraction allows the boy she had punched in the jaw to charge in and swing, connecting solidly with her right eye socket. Her head snaps back and she reels to the side, stumbling back as spears of pain lance straight through her head.
Jaw-boy sneers and steps to follow her stagger, hammering his fist for her temple. Despite the previous blow, she's ready and maneuvers her arm up; her movements are mechanical, instinctual now. He feels pressure on his wrist- the back of her left forearm pushing his hand away, opening his stance. He growls and tries to counter but it's too late, and he takes the broad side of her right fist in the exact center of his face, snapping him back with enough force to knock him off his feet and right onto his back. Blood sprays out of his nose on the descent, spattering over Jo's white tank-top.
She doesn't have time to celebrate, and has no time to recoil before another meaty fist catches her in the mouth. She tries to roll with the punch but still feels her lip split wide open. A second later someone else's knuckles slam into the bridge of her nose, and her vision explodes in stars as she stumbles backwards, back into the fence.
The three boys leftover from Daisuke's end of the fight have replaced Jo's dropped assailants, ignoring the downed giant. Jo barely straightens when the last bat-wielder knocks the end of his weapon into her forehead. The skin splits wide and starts pouring blood, and Jo sinks against the fence, dazed. Not a moment passes before the same bat slams into her ribcage, and a gurgled yell passes her lips when she feels something snap. Again, there's no recovering; before she even finishes her yell the bat is slammed into her neck, choking off any more noise.
The boy growls, both hands on his bat as he presses it further into Jo's throat. She gasps, partially from the lack of oxygen and partially from feeling something sharp pierce into her left shoulder as she's pressed further into the fence.
"You wanna fuck with us? We don't fuck around, you got that?" He sneers, leaning close. Jo feels his hot breath on her face, but the choke is starting to make the edges of her vision fuzzy. There's blood dripping into her right eye, but the blow she took earlier ensured she couldn't see out of it anyway.
She stays calm, drawing shallow breaths against the wood pressing into her that burn her cracked ribs. She grabs the bat with both hands, around his own, but he has the leverage and only presses harder, crushing. His two companions are cheering him on.
"What, girl, you gonna try and fight back?" He whispers at her, and she wheezes in response.
Subtly, several feet from the action Daisuke comes back to his senses and slowly pushes himself off the ground. He's dazed, but the sight of Jo slammed against the fence snaps him to awareness immediately. He shoots to his feet, swaying dangerously as a wave of nausea hits him. He bites it down and charges, grabbing the first boy he can get his hands on and, on pure adrenaline, lifts him over his head and slams him to the ground. Six feet and ten inches is a long way to fall, and the boy doesn't get back up.
Jo's attacker is momentarily distracted, and it gives her the chance to wrench his bat away, using her back against the fence for leverage as she throws him off. She had forgotten about whatever had pieced her, but it comes straight back to mind when she feels it snag and rip all the way across her back. This time she tries to scream, but no sound comes out; her throat is crushed.
Daisuke growls and moves to help, but is intercepted by the remaining two boys. They don't stand a chance, and a powerful fist to one's cheek lays him out on his back.
The second boy gets a solid hit against Daisuke's cheek when he's distracted by both his knockout and when he notices the blood spray from Jo's back. The fist snaps him back and he snarls at his attacker, throwing a punch. This time it isn't as easy, and Daisuke finds himself locked in a fistfight with the kid.
He looks up in time to see Jo's attacker wind up as if to hit a baseball, and Jo move too late. The bat nails her directly in the side and crashes her into the ground. Before she can even react the same bat is slammed into her leg, just above her kneecap. He shouts for her and glares back at his attacker, grabbing the next thrown punch and driving the heel of his hand into his temple. The kid finally drops.
By the time the kid is knocked out, Jo is back on her feet and her assailant is swinging again. Before Daisuke can move to intercept Jo twists and catches the bat with both hands. The horrified and surprised expression on the boy's face matches Daisuke's before the bat is wrenched out of his hands and is turned on him. He staggers back and trips over a fallen companion, then scootches back on his hands, looking up in fear.
His companions are stirring, but when they see Daisuke standing tall and Jo brandishing one of their bats they panic.
"Get the fuck outta here before I kill ya!!" Daisuke screams, and it's enough to have them all scrambling to their feet. Daisuke doesn't watch them, but keeps his gaze on Jo. She glares after them, unmoving, the red stain on her back slowly spreading. Finally, her shoulders slump and she drops the bat. Daisuke reacts just in time, and catches her before she crashes to the ground.
"Holy shit Jo!!" He panics, but Jo has a huge, idiotic grin on her face. "What the fuck are you smilin' about??" He asks, incredulous.
She just lets out a strangled chuckle and pats his arm.
"That's what I call an ass-kicking." Her voice is barely audible, but Daisuke hears it and groans, helping Jo to her feet.
"I think you're crazier than them
" She snorts and leans heavily into him.
" She wheezes painfully, "Just way more badass."
